ICC Stood By its Decision – Bangladesh Have to Play World Cup Matches in India Venues

The ICC has rejected Bangladesh’s request to host its World Cup matches under a hybrid model at neutral venues.

An ICC meeting was convened to conduct a detailed review of the value and logistics of Bangladesh’s matches. Bangladesh had formally requested that its 2026 World Cup matches be played at venues other than India.

This situation emerged after Mustafizur Rahman was released from the KKR squad, following which the BCB took a firm stance and openly opposed the decision, stating that Bangladesh was not willing to play its World Cup matches in India under any circumstances.

Subsequently, the ICC formed a committee and conducted a voting process involving all members. A majority of voters were of the view that if Bangladesh refuses to participate at Indian venues, Bangladesh could be excluded from the tournament, and a replacement team may be included in its group.

However, if Bangladesh agrees to play its matches in India, the ICC and the concerned government authorities would conduct a comprehensive security assessment and provide full security assurances.

Following these developments, the decision now rests with the Bangladesh Cricket Board as to whether they will participate in the ICC World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin on 7 February 2026, or withdraw from the tournament.
